Update broke the site?
Divi update broke the site? Fix it step by step
Missing styles and a builder that will not load are usually caused by cached CSS or an add-on. Start here.
Fix it now
Get the site working again
- Don’t panic and don’t update anything else. If the site is down for visitors, restore the last backup or roll back the plugin first; find the cause afterwards.
- Clear Divi’s static CSS. Go to Divi → Theme Options → Builder → Advanced and click Clear next to Static CSS File Generation. Then clear all caches.
- Check your Elegant Themes username and API key under Divi → Theme Options → Updates. Without them, updates do not arrive.
- Find the conflicting add-on. On a copy of the site, disable Divi add-ons one by one.
Why it happens
The usual causes
Cached static CSS
Divi keeps serving CSS generated before the update.
Third-party Divi modules
Modules from other makers may not be ready for the new version.
Child theme overrides
Custom code in the child theme relies on older behaviour.
Big version jumps
Old sites that skipped many versions change a lot at once.
Next time
Checklist before the next update
- Make a backup
- Check that the API key is set
- Run the update on a copy
- Clear the static CSS
- Compare key pages on desktop and mobile
- Then update live
How Verploy handles it
Test the next update before your clients see it
Every update is checked, and the risky ones are tested on a copy of the site first. Verploy compares the key pages on desktop and mobile, submits the forms and opens the checkout. If something looks off, the update is held back and the live site stays as it was. If a problem only shows after going live, Verploy attempts an automatic rollback and reports the result.
